Summer Connect 2024: Embracing Strengths and Strategic Vision

The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) recently hosted its third annual Summer Connect, a highly anticipated event that brought together staff from across the organization for a series of insightful sessions, keynote addresses, and networking opportunities. This year’s event emphasized the importance of embracing individual strengths, strategic planning, and a collaborative culture to drive the organization’s mission forward.

Kicking off with a warm welcome from EERC CEO Charlie Gorecki, the event set the tone for a week of learning and connection. One of the event’s key sessions was led by Gallup-certified Strengths coach and consultant, Carrie Herrig. In her session, “Embracing a Strengths-Based Culture,” Herrig shared valuable insights on how understanding and leveraging individual and team strengths can significantly enhance performance and service delivery.

The event featured a series of sessions designed to align the EERC’s strategic vision and operational goals. The Strategic Insights session, led by the EERC’s Executive Leadership team, provided an overview of the Center’s direction in areas such as operations, strategic partnerships, research, and finance. This was followed by the Technology Showcase, where presenters shared the latest developments in exploratory research, materials science, defense-related projects, and value-added energy opportunities. Additionally, sessions on inclusion and safety reinforced the importance of these core values in creating a positive and innovative work environment.

Beyond the formal sessions, Summer Connect also provided ample opportunities for staff to relax and connect outside of work. Events like the downtown networking gatherings, the company-wide picnic at University Park, and a lively performance by comedian Tim Harmston offered chances for employees to engage in a more informal setting, fostering camaraderie and strengthening team bonds. These activities, including games, family-friendly entertainment, live music, and plenty of laughter, added a fun and community-focused dimension to the event.

EERC’s Summer Connect 2024 was more than just a training event; it was an opportunity for staff to connect, reflect, and align with the Center’s mission and values. By focusing on individual strengths, strategic direction, and a culture of inclusion and safety, the event successfully reinforced the pillars that support the EERC’s ongoing success.
