Supporting the surrounding community has always been a priority for the EERC. Each year, employees choose a cause to focus on for the upcoming year. This year the EERC chose Arts for Vets, which provides a group of veterans, active-duty personnel, family, friends, and community members a safe space in which vets can create and share through their art and, through their shared experience, mentor and support one another. The director of Arts for Vets, Kim Wilson, is the wife of EERC Regulatory Specialist Jib Wilson.
In early October, EERC employees feverishly competed in a friendly bags tournament that raised more than $1500 for Arts for Vets and, in November, hosted an art supply drive. The main fundraising event is a December Holiday Market replete with items handcrafted and donated by EERC employees. All funds from sales will be donated to Arts for Vets.
Arts for Vets supports their mission through the development of creative arts events, programs, classes, exhibits, special projects, and social activities for the community at large. These forums provide support and encouragement to vets to share their gifts and showcase their extraordinary talents. The purchase of their artwork supports the artists directly.
