How Big Is Your Carbon Footprint?

Did you know that the average American home emits 5 tons of CO2 a year? Additionally, the average business produces roughly 29 metric tons of CO2 per year. This all accumulates to a total of 43.1 billion tons of CO2 in the global atmosphere. The EERC has been studying the best solutions to capturing and storing CO2 for the past two decades and has been working toward applying those solutions to the North Dakota landscape and beyond.

So what does this have to do with you? Every individual has something called a carbon footprint. Your carbon footprint can be tracked by adding up the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions you emit in a year. This includes your electricity usage, type of car, travel and transportation, water usage, food consumption, disposal practices, and even how you do your laundry.
